September 2012
Uzayr van der Schyff

Uzayr at the Old Mutual Two Oceans 5km Race
Uzayr is one of our outstanding U/12 athletes. He is a grade 6 learner at Kenwyn Primary School and believes he should try his best at everything that he does. He is not only a fine athlete but excels as well in the swimming pool as a member of Trafalgar Swimming Club where he is a regular gold medal winner. We'll be watching out for him at the 2020 Olympic Games.

Academically Uzayr is also a top achiever having recently been short listed to write the exam which will hopefully qualify him for the Allan Gray Bursary for top academic achievers.

He is also progressing well in his noble efforts of memorizing the Holy Qur'an.

We wish him everything of the best.

May 2012
Haadiya Gamiet

Haadiya Gamiet at start of UWC Cross Country
Haadiya is 7 years of age and is a learner at Cecil Road Primary School. She is the youngest of 4 children, all of whom are in the Athletic Development program. Mom and Dad (Ashraf & Naz) knows how much they enjoy the activities and ensures that they stay committed to the program. Haadiya is always excited when it comes to her running but very relaxed as can be seen when on the start line "hands in pockets". She has not missed a single race or practice in the last two months and has improved in leaps and bounds finishing consistently in the top 5, most recently two 3rd place finishers.

She enjoys watching rugby and says her favourite player is Francois Ougat, sorry Hougaart. She would like to be a chef one day and talk to people about healthy eating, but for know burgers and chips are just fine.

APRIL 2012
Qiyaam Mallick

Two Oceans 2012
Qiyaam is our Athlete of the Month for April. He is 13 years of age and aspire to one day be one of Itheko's top athletes. He is the third youngest of 10 children and no less than 7 of his brothers and sisters achieving WP colours in both golf and karate. His parents, Muneeb and Faldiela Mallick are also members of the club. A gifted sporting family indeed.

Ravensmead AC 5km
It seems likely that he will achieve his sporting goals as he enjoys his running tremendously and sets himself personal goals but more importantly takes full advantage of the enjoyment that sport has to offer. Qiyaam is a grade 8 learner at Trafalgar High School. His athletic exploits started at junior school where he represented his school at middle distance running with distinction. He currently runs the 5km distance in 20 minutes but sub 20mins is just a formality.
